project-babies:

I’m letting you in on my new little secret: this video.

Thanks to my friend Kristin and her son, I now have the key to pure toddler happiness. No tantrum shall survive through this video. No amount of fussing can overcome the sheer POWER of Twinkle, Twinkle….little star.

Oh yes. How I wonder what you are.

Actually, I don’t care what you are. Just sing the song and make my kid happy again.

I’ve been having some “moments” lately. I’m not going to call it a meltdown because I’d rather avoid the horrible truth. But I guess when I’m sitting in my closet alone, trying to get ready for the first time in days, crying because it’s Friday and Matt got home 2 hours later than he said and then I broke my powder all over the floor and Tinsley hates me…

it’s a mama meltdown. But we’ll just call it a “moment.”

Today there was another moment: Tinsley didn’t nap all day. That’s all you need to know, right?

BUT THEN I REMEMBERED TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR. And we watched it. 15 times we watched this owl and star dance into the night. Then we downloaded the iPhone app. And watched it some more. And then it was time for bed PRAISE JESUS.

A non-napped, teething toddler is a formula for afternoon/evening disaster. No one told me about this before I had kids. No one ever mentioned the “witching hour.” Our moms act like we were perfect. Our moms are liars.

In my arsenal of tricks to get us through those difficult afternoons:

  • going outside and riding in the wagon
  • gerber raviolis
  • stickers
  • mommies bracelets
  • …and now this video.

We all have those little tricks. I’m so happy to add a new one to the mix. Even if you don’t believe in TV watching, you can allow a two minute video sometimes, right? You won’t regret it. Give it a try next time you’re desperate. Like tomorrow.
